    SUSTAINABILITY

    JEFAR is committed in the protection of the environment.
    In our activity we do all the efforts to go further than strictly complying with the legal requirements in force in the European Union.

      The review and analysis of our processes is continuous and frequently updated to allow us to minimize the environmental impact of our activities.

      Producing energy for self-consumption, in addition to a rigorous selection of our partners, has recently enabled us to ensure that at least 80% of the energy we use comes from renewable sources.

      OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

      The environment is progressively deteriorating due to human activity and the overexploitation of non-renewable resources.

      In order to halt this deterioration, it is crucial that citizens and companies adopt best practices to protect and improve the environment.

      JEFAR core business is footwear manufacture, which leads to hazardous and non-hazardous waste production, emission of gaseous effluents and consumption of energy resources.

      Having strong values, based on ethics, demand and passion, and always striving for continuous improvement, JEFAR is fully committed to doing everything in order to safeguard the environment, therefore undertakes the following measures:
      • Implementing and maintaining an Environmental Management System that covers the activities carried out in all sectors of the company for the Development and Production of Footwear in the two manufacturing units it owns, one located in Outeiro and the other in Pedregais, establishing goals and targets that contribute to promoting sustainable environmental improvements, based on the requirements of ISO 14001;
      • Act, at the very least, in compliance with the legal provisions in force at all times and respect any environmental commitments it may make to third parties;
      • Prevent contamination by acquiring the necessary means of waste packaging in order to mitigate the impact of its activity on the environment;
      • Preventing soil and water pollution by implementing environmental management practices, such as waste segregation from its source until its return to entities legally authorized to receive it;
      • Preventing atmospheric pollution by offering public transportation to employees who live further from the company and by providing suitable spaces where employees can have lunch, thus helping to reduce the number of vehicles on the road;
      • Reduce energy consumption from non-renewable sources;
      • Encourage employees to act as citizens mindful of climate change and biodiversity conservation.
      Whilst we want to continue being an example of economic and social stability and well-being, we will do everything we can to reduce our environmental footprint. And may these values be reflected in every pair of shoes we manufacture.

      This is a challenging and therefore encouraging exercise for a company that wants to play an active role in enhancing the natural and human environment for current and future generations.
